The emerging company’s recycled skateboard tile adds fresh, artisan aesthetic while elevating the dining experience
Hanover, PA (June 9, 2015) – Art of Board, a brand known for its one-of-a-kind, artisan tile surfaces, textiles and wall coverings inspired by skateboarding, is making their mark on California Pizza Kitchen’s nationwide restaurant makeover with tile design installations made solely from used, recycled skateboards.
In an effort to elevate the Southern California chain from a full service family brand to a more upscale but casual approach, the new spaces exude a fresh, natural and artisan look. In Summerlin, Nevada and Houston, Texas, walls come alive with an artful riot of color and texture that takes hospitality design to a whole new level of storytelling – integrating texture and creating a tactile experience diners won’t soon forget. The look and feel of each restaurant will vary slightly, so it’s not yet known how many restaurants will include Art of Board surfaces.
Hailed as one of Material ConneXion’s top five most innovative and green materials, according to Interior Design Media, Art of Board’s mesh mounted artisan wood surfaces become focal points and splashes of character that reflect the personality of the city where they are located.

Collected through Art of Board’s national skateboard recycling movement, I Ride I Recycle, the design sets an authentic tone in the restaurant chain and is a bold sustainability statement. The Summerlin, Nevada restaurant includes over 350 square feet, which equates to approximnately 320 recycled skateboard decks or 500 pounds of wood waste that otherwise would have gone to landfills.
